MEMA IN THE MAGNOLIA

“Mema in the Magnolia” is an exploration by artist Stephanie Forbes, encompassing a diverse array of paintings, installations, and sculpture. This body of work delves into the themes of beauty, hope, and intentional living and mindfullness amidst life’s adversities.

Through this series, Forbes invites viewers to reflect on the inherent beauty present in every facet of existence. “Mema in the Magnolia” is a testament to the artist’s belief in uncovering goodness and purpose in each moment, regardless of the challenges we face. “Mema in the Magnolia,” draws from the personal and the poetic. It serves as a tribute to the enduring strength and elegance of the artist’s grandmother, Mema, and the magnolia—a symbol of dignity, enduring memory, resilience and a reflection of the artists Southern Heritage.

The exhibition will unveil a selection of pieces from this series for the first time outside of the artist’s studio during the closing reception of “The Things That Kept Me Warm/Safe” in Augusta. Forbes’ work serves as a contemplative examination of how resilience and grace can coexist with life’s struggles, offering a meditative perspective on our shared human experience.

*This body of work is currently in progress and the site will be updated with new images as pieces are completed.
